Youth Exchange Presentation and Updates
Carmel introduced herself to the club and shared her excitement and nervousness about her upcoming youth exchange to France in January.
Carmel is a 15-year-old from Trundle, New South Wales. She expressed excitement and some concerns about the cultural differences. She shared details about her family, hobbies, and passion for music, including her involvement in the Regional Youth Orchestra. Carmel discussed her transition from homeschooling to school and emphasised her values of kindness and honesty. She presented her bucket list for the exchange, including visiting iconic French sites, trying new activities, and continuing her musical pursuits. Carmel expressed gratitude for the opportunity to share her story and looked forward to updating her sponsor on her exchange experiences. She shared her progress in learning French, including starting a French club at school. The club members expressed admiration for Carmel's presentation skills and offered support for her upcoming exchange.
Rotary Regionalisation Pilot Overview
Amanda Barnes, online Rotary Community Group leader, introduced herself as a long-time Rotary member and discussed the community group pilot program. Amanda also explained the Rotary regionalsation pilot in which the zone is participating, focusing on governance and support structure changes. She described how the pilot aims to create a more effective governance structure through Regional Councils and Portfolio committees, while supporting clubs through community groups. Amanda highlighted that eClubs, including the one she leads, have been working to strengthen connections between clubs and leverage their international membership base to increase impact and engagement.
The talk focused on the diversity and challenges of eClubs within Rotary, highlighting membership recruitment issues and the need for better understanding of eClubs' unique value and impact. Amanda discussed the three main categories of eClubs, including traditional online clubs, cause-based clubs, and passport/direct membership model clubs, emphasising the varied cultures and operational styles. She also outlined efforts to promote eClubs through information and interest events, and described collaborative tools like shared calendars and communication groups.
Amanda also discussed the Epic Day of Service, a global Rotary initiative where clubs unite to make a significant impact on their communities on the third Saturday in May. She highlighted the success of previous events, including her club's participation in various clean-ups, blood donations, and tree planting activities across multiple countries. Amanda emphasized the importance of leveraging the project platform for fundraising and increasing visibility of Rotary's work. She encouraged other clubs and community groups to participate in the event, noting its potential to grow into a worldwide movement.
Amanda discussed challenges and strategies for engaging members in eClubs, highlighting the importance of adapting to members' diverse needs and time constraints. She shared that her club uses various tools like WhatsApp and Teams for communication, and implements initiatives like "Sip and Share" to foster social connections among members. Amanda emphasised the need for flexibility and inclusivity in Rotary clubs to accommodate different lifestyles and commitments, while Travis acknowledged the benefits of online meetings for members with busy schedules or travel commitments.
