The club heard from the organisation BeyondWater at our meeting on November 28.
In November 2007, Pete and Sharon Crean were living in Sydney. They were presented with the fact that one billion people don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water and another two billion people don’t have the use of a toilet. They gathered a team of volunteers who were enthusiastic about acting to alleviate poverty in East Africa, and BeyondWater was established. In 2012 they moved to Nairobi, Kenya to build a team of nationals who they would work alongside them to expand the work further. Slowly, a team was built and the work expanded even further.

The organisation now aims to raise living standards and reduce mortality rates for communities in East Africa through the provision of safe, clean, and sustainable drinking water and sanitation facilities

It was the club's pleasure to welcome Sharon Crean and her colleague Mary Mwikali on November 28. Sharon and Mary emphasised their approach to relationship building in the communities they work in.
