By Dr Stephen Utick PHF, District 9705 Environmental Envoy.
Beginning in earnest in September 2023, the Rotary Club of Canberra (RCC) will commence the Weston Park Nursery Heritage Project in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Murrumbidgee-Canberra. This community project aims to revitalise the site at Weston Park between Westbourne Woods and the ACT government nursery in Weston Park Yarralumla, and an important aspect of this project is to draw in wider community support. There is also a heritage component and heritage tours will be included.
I should add that this environment project model has been constructed so that interested volunteers from clubs across our Rotary area can come together in a relaxing environment to work together on an environmental project.
There is also a social get-together component with provision for picnicking such that Rotarians from different Clubs can just get together and connect. Volunteers can come and contribute as much or as little as they want without being "stressed out" by a project outcome.
The designated dates below that indicate our proposed forward activity schedule are as follows, and any prospective volunteers are encouraged to contact me first:
- SUNDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 1-4PM INTRODUCTION TO WEEDING AND TOUR DESIGN, PICNIC FOR VOLUNTEER FAMILIES
- SUNDAY 24 SEPTEMBER 1-4PM WEEDING, PICNIC FOR VOLUNTEER FAMILES
- SUNDAY 22 OCTOBER 2PM TRIAL OF AN INAUGURAL TOUR
- SUNDAY 12 NOVEMBER 1-4PM WEEDING, PICNIC FOR VOLUNTEER FAMILIES
Registering before our scheduled commencement of activities on Sunday 10 September would be desirable.
I emphasise that there is no formal roster, and that you are welcome to choose any date(s) you wish to turn up to and contribute. I would also ask you to email me on
sutick@iimetro.com.au or phone or text me on 0421972287 once you have completed your registration.
