An Excellent District Conference

With our club serving as the Home of the District Governor via Rob Uhl, many members valued the opportunity to attend the District Conference in Mittagong and take on a number of roles to help out.

Jenny Lovekin and Ros Prangnell organised and ran the Rotary Down Under stall, ensuring all members of our district can easily access Rotary-branded merchandise, apparel and more. Meghan Barrell also helped out.

Additionally, Meghan spent much of her time at the Rotary Youth Program of Enrichment (RYPEN) table encouraging Rotarians to support the program and sponsor participants, and also gave a presentation from the mainstage. Meghan is a member of the District RYPEN committee alongside Sally Herder and Rotarians from many other clubs.

Likewise, Norm Potter held court at the End Polio table, ran a raffle, and spoke from the mainstage about the importance of this global program and its contributions to global peace, security, and wellbeing.

Many members were moved by the presentation of Desmond Woods on the Assisi Center for Social Justice and Peace, a Ugandan non-profit working for gender justice, social inclusion, and non-violent conflict resolution. The board subsequently approved a $500 donation via RAWCS to support the Center.

We also deployed our club's payments systems to help collect funds to donate to the Rotary Foundation, supporting collective fundraising efforts of over $2000 over the weekend, which will be tripled by the Gates Foundation.

Thank you to all who attended the conference in support of DG Rob and various Rotary initiatives. Congratulations to Rob and her team on a fantastic, engaging, and inspiring conference.
